SEO Case Study: MyBallCap.com

I have started a new case study on the domain name http://myballcap.com

I have started this case study on the website http://www.salesandmarketingforums.co.uk which is a great website that deals with marketing and SEO.

I am just going to be duplicating the data that I post there to here, but the orginal content can be found here: http://www.salesandmarketingforums.co.uk/forums/seo-and-online-marketing/i-want-to-learn-seo-and-web-design/view.html

So here is the first post I made:

Hey cool!

Basically, I would like input if possible.

I have a domain and I have done nothing other than register it. Oh, actually I submitted it to dmoz but that will take 4 - 6 months to get listed there.

Here is the kicker, I don’t really know yet what I am going to put on it. I am kind of just using the domain as a case study. When finished, if I could use it as an authority type site for either information in general or as a conduit for buyers / sellers as well as earn some extra from PPCs like Adsense, bidervertiser, etc. I would be happy. Or, if I could sell it to a company related to the content industry of the website that would be OK as well.

Choose Type of Site

I am thinking of two possibilities in regard to the website. The name of the domain is myballcap.com which is a term in the US that refers to baseball caps. I purchased the domain name for $8.99 US from a site which I own called yesitisavailable.com. The two types of sites I am thinking of are:

1. Just a straight eCommerce site selling Base Ball Caps, perhaps osCommerce as I have some professional templates for that shopping cart. I can also use cubecart or zen easily as it is in my domain hosting control panel in the Fantastico (Opensource software) installer. I don’t mind doing an upload and manual install for some other package as well.

or

2. An eCommerce site that connects people that want to purchase bulk ball caps with wholesalers from anywhere. If I go this way I was thinking of installing a CMS, I like joomla and I have done hundreds of installs as well as plugin mods and general maintenance. However, any type CMS such as Xoops, php-Nuke, Drupal, Geeklog, etc… This type of site I would imagine eventually putting a blog such as a local install of wordpress or whatever and some flavour of forum install.

or

If some of you can come up with some cool idea for the domain name itself I am open to that as well!

Currently the domain name is parked on my company DNS package. To point it to my webhost DNS and to create a webhost package for it takes around 20 mins.

I use a tool I got from SEOBook that I installed on my own website to give me a minor summary of my PageRank, Alexa Rank, Backlinks and SERPs. Not many people use it so I find it fast for me. I have a bunch of ads on it so I am sorry about the blatant backlink… http://seo.peuan.com/al2/

But other than that here are its current stats: http://www.myballcap.com

PageRank 0
Alexa Rank 0
Back Links 0
MSN Search Results 0
Yahoo! Search Results 0

So, the next step after these questions are answered is Keyword development before I start any programming or installs.

But, first to recap I need to decide on the answers to these questions:

1. What type of site?
2. What type of software Package for the site?

I ask for your input.

Thanks,
Sincerely

Cheap electronic gifts Wholesale

SEO Case Study: cheap-electronic-gifts.com

Today I purchased a new domain name to see how well I can do with PageRank, Back Links, Alexa Ranking, MSN and Yahoo Results. The domain is a newly created domain so I will have to start from scratch. The content will be an eCommerce site focusing on discount electronic gifts with a focus towards wholesale. The Software package on the domain is osCommerce, Which I find difficult to search engine optimize. I installed the software in a subdirectory on the domain called /4u/ so the full URL will be http://cheap-electronic-gifts.com/4u/

I have setup the domain, email server and software package. I have created a permanent 301 redirect from http://cheap-electronic-gifts.com to http://cheap-electronic-gifts.com/4u/ and set up my keywords, phrases and description meta data.  I must admit that I did not spend alot of time developing keywords. I found a top ranker in google for where I want to be and did what they did.

I have also submitted the domain to a couple of search engines using http://submitexpress.com and http://freewebsubmission.com/ to get the domain indexed and spidered…. I will submit this article and ping this blog via one of my favorite pinger sites http://pinger.blogflux.com/ .

Current stats:

PageRank                             0
Alexa Rank                           0
Back Links                            0
MSN Search Results           0
Yahoo! Search Results        0

My next task is to get some back links from some electronic wholesaler type sites.

I will keep you posted.

My most used SEO Tool

In the past SEO was shrouded in mystery. As more and more website owners become more aware of thier websites and how to benefit from them, website owners are gaining more knowledge as to what they have to do to make their websites seen. In lieu of this you see more and more SEO tools become available for free on the internet as they become useful resources that are used more frequently.

I, myself, have my own tools on the Internet for my own personal use and so I can access them no matter where I am. One of my favourite or most used tools is something I call simply ‘PageRank’ found here http://seo.peuan.com/al2/ it is a tool I got from http://seobook.com which is a definite authority website on SEO.

No only does this tool give me current publish PageRank of any page on any domain, but it also gives me a quick tally of backlinks that a domain has as well as Alexa (http://alexa.com) traffic rank,  Yahoo search results and MSN search results tallies.

This tool is free and because I have it on a site that does not have a great deal of traffic and good bandwidth, I feel it performs quite quickly. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Thanks for reading my post. If you need a domain try http://yesitisavailable.com for domain names at a great price.

Owning your own Domain Name

Why Owning your own Domain Name is Important!

Would you buy a car and put it in a strangers name? Of course not, that’s just silly. Well, would you buy a house and put it in a stragers name? C’mon that’s insane! Well, would you buy a domain name and put it in a strangers name?

Well, would you? … The sad fact is the answer to this is YES. This, to me is one of the most frequent mistakes business owners make. Why would they do this? There are many reasons. Here are a few I hear daily. “I am too busy, can you do it?”, “I have a web person and they handle everything”, “It only costs $10 a year, no biggy if I loose it”, “I don’t know how to buy a domain name”, “What’s a domain name?” and “I don’t like using credit cards on the Internet and this guy had a paypal account so I just….”. These are just a few but you would be amazed at some I hear.

I sell domain names from http://yesitisavailable.com for $8.99 a year and I must admit some of the horror stories I hear from people that have let their friends, wives, husbands, husband’s dogs, Tyrone, their web developer, etc.. purchase and own their web domain names is sad.

One client allowed someone that worked for them who was also making their website get a friend who was hosting the site purchase the domain name. Did you follow that, an owner’s employee’s friend that hosted the site owned it. Well thats cool from a stand point of getting things done! kudos there. Here is what happened, this friend went through a hard time and sadly ended up committing suicide. BTW, this is the third time I have come across a sad story like this. I think you know where this is heading, when the renewal for the domain name came up there was no one around to renew it. Here is where it begins to get worse. The website domain went up for purchase and the expired web domain name porn kings quickly had the domian purchased and pointed to porn sites in a matter of minutes from purchasing the domain name. Now, not only did the client loose thier domain name that they spent thousands of dollars on marketing such as business cards, yellow pages, let alone online Internet marketing, but all the programming and web development, marketing, search engine placement and personal client bookmarks and backlinks from their wonderfully happy clients now pointed to porn. They lost their reputation and many of thier clients. What a horror story! Not only is this true, but trust me, this happens all the time!

I have more horror stories and would be happy to share them with you if you are not yet sold on being owner of your domain name.

As a developer I do understand that the whole Internet website thing can be a bit overwhelming. If you have a developer and you entrust them to purchase your domain names for you make sure they transfer the domain name after purchase to you. If your developer does not suggest this in the first place, get a new developer. If your developer has a problem with this, get a new developer. I have purchased domain names for clients. Once I recieve payment for the domain name in one form or another I transfer the domain to the client. I usually keep my name as a technical contact (one of four contacts for the domain name) incase there is a problem or upon renewal if the owner of the domain can not be contacted.

One other piece of advice when purchasing a domain name is to use a public email address such as a yahoo, gmail, msn, etc email address for the contact email of the domain name. If you use one of your domain emails such as bonnie@mycooldomainname.com as the contact for the domain name and your webhost provider goes out of business you will not receive emails and might not be able to renew your domain name.

Here is an article by Trish JOnes on this subject as well.

Here is another helpful document as to why you should have a domain name.

Hope this helps.

How to get high PR for your website

How to get high PR for your website

Having high PR is not going to put you on search engine result pages. Having SEO’d pages is. High PR means Googles thinks your links from and too your site are relevant. Having high PR means when you ask someone to share links, especially someone with lots of traffic, SEO’d pages, someone that has taken the time to make sure their site performs well, you get a much higher percentage of people say yes. Then you have a lot of pages that link to your site that each have a lot of traffic. You have a greater opportunity to get traffic to your site. If the links (back links) to you are from similar type sites then your traffic will be more targeted. So, in effect, having high PR can bring you more targeted traffic, but, it will not increase your SERP ranking.

PR is all about who links to  you. Full stop. No links, no PR.

To get any PR you need link partners. So, you either go to blogs, forums, social networking sites, etc.. and post comments, articles, reviews and/or  help people on the sites OR go ask for links and offer links back to select websites. This article will deal solely on contacting websites and asking if they want to exchange links.

What Is A Good Link Partner:

  • Look for sites that use the same keywords or keyword phrases that your site does.
  • Check their PageRank and make sure it’s OK or higher than yours.
  • Check to see if the page their links are on is accessible from the their site’s first page of the domain. On this page look at the source code and makes sure this <meta name=”robots” content=”noindex, nofollow”>is not in the meta tags.
  • Check who they are linking too. Keep away from sites that link to tobacco, drug, alcohol, gambling or adult sites. Well, if you are one of those sites then that is exactly who you want to link too. So make sure you know who your link partners are linking too.
  • when linking to them make sure you use a natural phrase using your keywords in the anchor text linking to them.
  • When they link to you make sure they use a natural phrase using their keywords in the anchor text back to you.

That’s it. At this point you are poised to have increased PageRank the next time Google releases an updated PR which is around 3 times a year.

Now that you have links you need to :

  • review them every month
  • check to make sure your link is still on their page
  • then check their links to make sure they are not linking to any of the bad neighbour websites.

If you follow this simple guide you will get high PR.

Thanks for reading my post.

How I make Money Online: Part 1

My background is in Engineering and Programming. I have been developing on the Internet since 1993. Currently my primary focus is on SEO, Internet Marketing, web development and Social Networking.

How I currently make money on the Internet is by empowering others to make money on the Internet. No, I do not want any money from you. I want you to make money. If you make money, then I make money. If you do not make money, then I do not make money.

So, how can you make money? Well, if you are reading this you probably have a bit of an understanding as to how to earn on the internet. What I have found is that I can make $10 here a month, $25 there and $100 over there. I call these income streams. But when you add it all up, it all adds up to $1300 or more each month. Some months more and others less. The trick is to be persistent, consistent and surround yourself with the same types of people that help keep you motivated. If you do this you start seeing your paypal and bank accounts growing and activity increasing.

I make income from PPC (Pay per click programs). PPC are responsible for those ads on all those websites. I am not going to get into that much write here. The bottom line is big companies into PPC. Google is and they are a multi billion dollar company. Yahoo is and they are a multi billion dollar company. I use various PPC programs. If you want to see a few I use then open this page in a new tab http://seo.peuan.com/ppc.php .  I actually make fair money from these programs each month. I make a minimum of $15 upto over $200 per agency each month.

I also make money from those companies that want you to download a program to your pc and they pay you to run it when you are on the Internet. For the most part these programs are unobtrusive but they really do not pay that much unless you have 10 or more pc’s running their software for 10 or more hours a day.

I make money from affiliate programs. That’s where I sell other people’s products or I promote them with my ID and get paid for people signing up, buying products or just visiting their site. Some of the products I sell are website templates (http://khrab.com/templates/) I get as much as $40 for the sale of one $125 website template. Here are some of the templates http://peuan.com/dev/ but there are literally thousands of these templates and there are lots of people with websites that want facelifts.

Another affiliate I use is clickbank, I sell products that I own or create on clickbank but that costs you money to be able to sell on clickbank and you need something to sell.  However, you can make upto 80% commission promoting other peoples products on clickbank. Take a look and see what I mean. I personally pay people 75% if they promote and sell my eBooks. Some of my eBooks cost $37 so you get $7.50 per $10 product of mine you sell. You get around $30 of the $37 product you sell of mine.

As I mentioned earlier, I am into web development. So, I sell domain names (http://yesitisavailable.com) and I sell turnkey websites that enable others to sell domain names (http://roireseller.com) so, my clients pay to sell websites to others, in real-time, and that enables them to sell domain names or sites that let their clients sell domain names. I get a piece of every domain name that is sold as they do too. These sites also sell other services such as webhost packages, SSL certs, email packages, etc…

I also sell web host packages. I charge monthly and this gives me a passive income stream. Because I want people to make money I sometimes give these away and help develop them. Once again, if they can make money, then I can make money. It’s in my best interest to help others make money.

I am affiliated with services that pay me when I send someone their way that use their superior FREE services. There are thousands out there. One I use is http://peuan.com/tr/owhb.php, which is FREE web space for your website. They have no ads, good bandwidth and a great control panel with fantastico, statistics, email servers, etc… all in one package and totally FREE! If you go there and get 250 megs for webspace free I get paid $5. This is a total win-win-win situation. I win, You win as you get FREE space and they win because once you have a website and you start becoming successful, you upgrade services to $5 a month or something and they get more clients.

This is my favorite http://peuan.com/tr/h4p.php because it is so simple and only takes 2 minutes a day. If you visit this site, please read the overview as all the details are there. I get paid every month from them. My monthly pay increases every month and has ever since I started. The really nice thing is this. If you go there and sign up (it takes two minutes and is FREE) and you start making money monthly, which is easy. Then I get paid half of what you get paid. If you make $20 a day I get $10 a day. But, here is the kicker, as you realize this is easy, you start promoting as I do to get others to sign up. It’s easy and who doesn’t want to make a small paycheck each month for 2 minutes a day. When people under me get others to sign up they start to make half of what people under them make. Then they promote more, etc. For each person that they are making half from, so do I. You can see how this starts to really add up. This is why it’s my favorite.

I make money just helping people (I call them clients) on the Internet. No real skill is needed other than being able to use the Internet. I write intelligent comments referring to these clients on other people’s reviews, articles, blogs and forums. I use signature files to drive traffic to these clients’ websites and they pay me. Why? Because they care about PageRank. Search Google to find out what PageRank means if you don’t know. Here is a tool (Free) http://seo.peuan.com/al2/ I have on one of my websites that I use to find out webpage’s PageRank. I contact people doing business on the Internet and ask them point blank if they will pay me via Paypal to promote them and increase their backlinks and PageRank. You will be surprised at how many say sure. They will pay you $5 a comment, article, forum post or blog for this promotion and usually will track your traffic and pay you $0.10 per visitor. Here is one of many of my clients http://rihey.cc/home.htm . They are a Wholesaler / Manufacturer / Distributor of electronic products. Some of the Products are really cool and inexpensive and others are big ticket items. The important thing is to find clients that are reputable, have buyer protection, warranties and quality products.

Wow, this blog entry is getting long! I also, use many other techniques to create monthly income streams as well I sell my services and skill set. I like to do SEO (search engine optimization) and I can make substantial income from this alone. I program, maintain, update and host websites. I also do graphics but I am not a graphic artist. I can make wonderful graphics but for really professional sites I just hire professional graphic artists.

I think I am going to end this blog here and continue on another day. I would like to thank you for reading this blog. I appreciate it. I hope you found it interesting and useful. Feel free to send me emails or comments to ask questions, add advice or opportunities of your own or just say hi.

If you would like to visit my blog or sign up to some of my income opportunities you can find them here http://peuan.com/seoblog , http://peuan.com or http://seo.peuan.com Please remember what I mentioned earlier about the ads and how I make money from them if you do visit my websites and see an ad that interests you… Clickity click click click :D

Hope to hear from you soon!

What is Keyword density?

Keyword density

Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears in a page. So if there are 500 words on a page and your keyword “pigdog” appears 50 times on the page, then the keyword density for the word “pigdog” would be 10 or 10%.

Keyword density is used by search engines to determine whether a web page is relevant to a keyword or keyword phrase.

It is believed that the first 2 or 3 paragraphs of a page have more importance than the rest of a page when search engines ‘look’ at a page. In fact the closer to the top of the page the better. So if you can have keywords as the first words of the body text of a page that this is better to search engines.

What should I Avoid?

Some things to avoid would be Search spaming or as Eric Convey calls spamindexing. Spamindexing is a tactic used by black-hat SEO or individuals that do not know better where they repeat unrelated keywords or keyword phrases in an attempt to manipulate SERPs (search engine result pages) so that their pages show up more frequently in SERPs. Many search engines check for spamdexing and remove suspected pages from their indexes. The goal of search engines is to provide useful or relevant content to searchers. Rule of thumb here is that you know if you are trying to ‘fool’ search engines. If you want better results, then you should just be honest and natural. Yes, there are some rules to follow that you normally would not but the bottom line is honesty is being rewarded by SEs today. Spamindexing renders search engines useless. Google, the dominant search engine today is a multi billion dollar company. The do not take spamindexing lightly. Do you have the resources to combat a company that has resources that billions of dollars provide? I, for one, do not.

Another tactic used is Keyword stuffing. Keyword stuffing is the practice of placing within a page keywords specifically to raise the count, variety and ultimately density of specific keywords even though the keywords are in fact relevant. Yes, we need to understand some of the ‘rules’ used by SEs to show up more frequently on SERPs but you have to try to keep it as natural as possible. One of the ways SEs analyze keyword stuffing is to look at keyword density of other sites with similar keywords. If your site has an abnormally high keyword density then your page becomes ’suspect’ to keyword stuffing and you might be removed from SE indexes. One method used is to put hidden text that a site might use for say a “Andrea Bocelli” fan site, the talented opera singer, thus your page shows up on more SERPs. Please be aware that Keyword stuffing is considered unethical to SEs. Keyword stuffing is one of the main reasons that SEs have lowered the importance of meta tags and some totally ignore them. These tactics have made SEO more difficult for the common website. Today, most search engines rely on off-site links to a site to help ranks sites. One of the problems with off-site links is that the people that put links to other sites don’t always spend a lot of time ensuring that their anchor text to the site is optimum for that sites SEO or Ranking. However, on the other side of that scenario, if you really like a site, then yes you are going to put more relevant anchor text and general text around that link. ie: this site is a great site chalked full of SEO tips and one of the most useful sites for SEO tips I have seen. The author of this site is an experts on SEO issues and provides tips most will find useful as well as tips you might be unaware of. So, if you want to learn from an expert be sure to visit < some link> Andy’s SEO BOOK website < end of link > and increase your rankings and traffic.

Some other Tactics To Stay Away From or Risk being Banned

Scrapper Sites — These sites take various result pages content and make new ‘unique’ pages or on-the-fly content. These sites are sometimes known as ‘Made for Adsense’ sites.

Meta Tag stuffing — unrelated keywords in meta tags.

Doorway Pages (Gateway Pages) — Low quality pages stuffed with similar keywords or keyword phrases. Some pages have for the most part gibberish on the pages while others have a “click here to enter” link.

Invisible or hidden text — same color text as background, no frames,  Zero framesets or divs.

Splogs — Spam Blogs are fake blogs usually with Keyword rich fake content. These sites usually have a lot of advertisements on them. The user ends up on this splog, is bored to death and clicks on a relevant advertisement. If these sites have links to other splogs or sites then they fall into the category ‘Link Farm’.

What is Acceptable Keyword Density?

If your site page has 500 words and 250 words are keywords, search engines will flag your page and your site may be banned. This is the wrong way to attain good rankings.

My Recommendation is to have a keywords density of 4-8% maximum and probably 3% to be safe.

Today, it is quite easy to check your keyword density as there are many tools out there that do this now. One sites tool I like is:
http://www.ranks.nl/tools/spider.html

However, a quick search of Google on Keyword density or Keyword Density Tool will give you many to choose from.

How to establish keywords for your website

What keywords should I use?

Before writing any html code for a webpage you should perform some sort of keyword analysis. Most website development totally ignores this step with corporate websites being guilty of this most. This step is most crucial in making sure that real people NOT in your industry find you. Knowing who you customers are helps.

Some questions you need to be able to answer are:

  • Is your audience likely to search for industry standard terms or simple layman phrases?
  • Which products/services have the highest profit margin? If you had just a $0.50 mark-up on a very popular product/service, could you sell enough online to make a profit? A product that is less searched but has a higher profit margin would be easier to obtain a search engine ranking and would yield higher revenues.
  • Identify your biggest competitors. View competitor websites and see which products they appear to target; which search phrases do they have rankings for?

So here are a few steps you should follow to obtain the best keywords for your website.

Step 1: Real World Analysis

Send all your friends, family and colleagues an email or give them a sheet of paper with the following question on it stating specifically that you need 5 answers:

If you were searching for a web site with content identical to, or of the same theme as www.yourdomain.com, what word, or better word combinations (2-4 words) would you type into the search box? Please give 5 possible search terms or search term phrases that you believe are relevant to www.yourdomain.com content.

1 _______________
2 _______________
3 _______________
4 _______________
5 _______________
It is important to make sure you actually write a numbered list 1 to 5 leaving spaces for them to fill in! Otherwise you mightfind that you generally get just one or two possible keywords or phrases. As your audience to fill in all five.
Step 2: Analyze your competitors Keywords

You can best find your competitors websites by searching with what you believe to be your own top three keywords and taking a look at the source code of the top 5 web sites in the results. Paying special attention to the contents of the title tag (<title>…</title>) and of course the keyword <meta name=”keywords”… and description <meta name=”description”… meta tags is vital. These should help you get some keyword ideas. You can count on it that your competitors have done the same for their own sites.
Step 3: Analyze the most popular searches for your industry

Use keyword phrases instead of single keywords for high competition industries.

Plan for a maximum of only 3 keyword (phrases) per page.

Any more and you end up diluting the effect of any optimization for each of your keywords.

Understanding which keywords/Keyword phrases are being search by prospective customers is gold.

Using Anchor Text for SEO

Effective Anchor Text Tips

Anchor text is the text you see that is linked. For example Paul’s Hit team, the text is obvious and link you go to is http://peuan.com. The Anchor text is Paul’s Hit Team.

Anchor Text is usually on links that link to your webpage. These are called inbound links and search engines use this text, especially Google, to determine what they show in thier SERPs. Anchor text has a huge effect on page rankings. In fact, with enough inbound links with effective anchor texts, a webpage can attain a high page ranking even if they do utilize any other forms of SEO. Anchor text is usually the deciding factor for very difficult and competitive SERPs.

So, to use anchor text effectively you need to ensure that the anchor text is relevant to the page it links to. It is not going to help a page about fish if the anchor text says something like “the best bikes on earth”. A site that links to another site with effective anchor text can benefit as well, however, this is not always the case. When you link to a page, if your intent is to give a value added backlink then using keywords that appear on the linked to page, preferably keywords in the h1 tag of the page or keywords in the first couple sentences would be most beneficial to both the linked page and your page you are linking from.

If you add other related anchor text links on the page that is linked to, you can benefit more, so add related links to your pages whether via a menu or linked body text in your page. As well if you link this page to itself helps too.

There are many problems with anchor text such as descriptive text, space limitations, etc. One of the problems is that you might only have so much space. You might be linking from a menu that is only so wide. Making the link descriptive might make your link wrap around and take away the professional look of your page. Even though SEs like this, us humans do not. We need to find a balance, if you were to write your pages so that search engines loved them, people surfing to your pages might not and quickly type in a new url or even worse just close the browser tab.

One of the biggest mistakes I see, which I myself am guilty of is having a ‘home’ link in menus, after all I do not want to compete or waste my valuable anchor text trying to rank in SEs for the word ‘home’. With that said, I do want my visitors to easily navigate through my site.. so naming my ‘home’ link ‘SEOBlog@Peuan Home’ would be more effective. This gives a perfect example of space limitations as I can’t afford a long name like that.

If you use an image as a header on your page as many sites do, then the ALT or alternative text of an image tag is the same as the anchor text of a link. Also, you might use an image to link to a site or you might provide a link with an image for people to easily link to your site. So I could make a nice ‘Home’ image for my menu and use descriptive alt text to get past this space limitation of a menu width.

Here is an example of alt text used on an image with rich descriptive text. To see the text put your mouse pointer over the image.

High Quality Backlinks for traffic and SEO via SERPs

Even if you have images that are non-linked such as just pretty graphics you will benefit using the alt text option of the img src code. One last thing about links is to use the title option when linking. Use descriptive text and get the most of your links. Here is
the code used for the image link above. Notice the “title” in the href link and the “alt” text for the image. As you can see you have lots of space for descriptive text you can take advantage of without mucking up your page layout.

How to get your site banned from Search Engines

SEO Tips you should and should not do

There are supposedly “over 200 SEO factors” that Google uses to rank pages in the Google search results (SERPs). What are the search engine optimization rules? well, they are not public. We can guess and experiment to see what works but these factors are speculation only.

Google says “Sites’ positions in our search results are determined based on a number of factors designed to provide end-users with helpful, accurate search results.”

PageRank
The main focus from Googlies perspective is PageRank which is a system to rank web pages. PageRank employs the democratic nature of the web by using as an indicator of an individual page’s value the links that link to a page. Based not so much on the volume of votes or links a page receives, but the quality or the importance of the page that links to a page. By having an important or high ranking page link to you helps to make your page “important” as well. With that said just because a page with a PageRank of say.. 7 links to your site does not automatically make your page more important. The linking page needs to be relevant to your page. So, a PageRank 7 page about gardening linking to a lower page ranked page about teaching English is not going to make the Teaching English page more important, and might actually hurt the teaching English page and vice versa.

Google uses text-matching techniques and goes beyond the number of times a term appears on a page examining dozens of aspects of the page’s content and the content of the pages that link to it to return good matches of high-quality websites that contain information relevant to your search.

In additions, Google does not sell SERP positioning. Yes they sell ads and place ads around the search results but they do not sell search engine results page placement.

One of the main problems with Search engines and page design is that you need to keep in mind some of the rules that SEs use when developing your pages. The side effect is, If SEs did not exist and if you were to just design your page then you would not design it the way SEs like to see  your page designed. Thus the best solution is designing your page based on a combination of SE rules and not 100% on user or visitor desires.

Cloaking
Because of this some SEO developers employ Cloaking techniques. “Cloaking” is the showing of one version of a web page to search engines and another version to general users. Thus you show up in SERPs and when a user clicks on the link they get a different page than what the SE thinks it is linking you to. Cloaking is a fine technique to use when you want higher rankings in SERPs but a web page written to rank well under unrelated search queries runs a high risk of getting the entire domain banned. When a user searches for antique Duck decoys for sale and sees your cloaked link “Inexpensive Unique Antique Duck Decoys for Sale”, clicks the link and is directed to a page on acupuncture then this is a prime candidate for being banned. However, if you provide a nice graphical page on unique duck decoys that is not 100% SE optimized then there is a much reduced chance of being banned as users are less likely to complain or report your pages. In fact, the user should not even know they have been exposed to a cloaking technique. The purpose of a search engine is to provide Internet users with the information sought after. Keeping this in mind when you create your web page will ensure you higher rankings in SEs.

Duplicated Content
Duplicating content is an SEO tactic where a website owner creates multiple web pages with very similar content in hopes of receiving more visitors. The result of this is not only running an extremely high risk of being banned but the even more important risk of boring your visitors and loosing trust or being perceived as a garbage site.

Redirects
Redirects are used to gain higher rankings for a web page. Some of these ways work only in a few search engines while others may work in many. if you try to get your web page listed under a search query it does not belong to you risk having the page (or domain) banned.

Hidden Text
Another SEO Technique is the use of Hidden text, increasing Keyword density by use of hidden text or text the same color as the background page so the text is not seen. Search engines will rank pages in part by the number of times the search query is repeated on a web page. Web pages with a higher keyword density usually show up higher in results. This tactic is frowned upon by Ses and putting hidden keywords unrelated to your site is a good way to get banned. As mentioned before Google goes well beyond the number of times a term appears on a page examining dozens of aspects of the page’s content.

Doorway Pages
Doorway pages are web pages created specifically to rank high in search engines. They are typically not created with human visitors in mind which defeats your purpose of getting visitors to revisit your page and puts you at risk of being banned by SEs.

The bottom line is to just create your pages using normal English even with a few errors, in fact a few errors might help your ranking and follow traditional on-page optimization techniques. include title Tag, header tags, page content, alt tags, meta description tag and meta keywords tag.

Page Title
The page title is the number one on page factor that they need to focus on. Page title tips:
• Limit the length of your page title to 65 characters or less.
• Incorporate keyword phrases into your page title.
• Grab the searchers attention.
• Each page should have a unique page title.
• Repeat your title tag in their H1 tags.
• Their title is the link that is shown in the search results of the search engine such as Google.
• Focus on click through rates and conversion rates.

So for example if your site focus’ on
a) Make Money Online
b) Make Extra Money

The title tag for your web page should look like this:

Make Money Online | Make Extra Money

Keep in mind that you should limit your keywords to a maximum of 3 or so on each web page because too many keywords in a title tag may be seen as spamming.

People often lie to get better results and because of this Google, understanding there is a problem, has decided to rely on off page optimization. That is, what the anchor text is in a link that links to your site from someone else’s site.

Header Tags
Header Tags are an HTML tag < h1 > </ h1 >. Use the H1 header tag as the title of the content on the web page. Do not confuse this with the < title > tag. Search engines read pages from top to bottom, so make sure your H1 tag contains the most important keyword(s). It should be placed at the top of the page which will be seen by your visitors. For sub-headings, you can create a H2 header tag and include your second most important keyword(s) into the H2 tag.

Page Content
Page Content should have your keywords sprinkled throughout the page. The closer to the top of the page the better. The first two sentences being the most important. Be sure to not over due it.. Keyword density of around 3 should be fine.

Alt Tags
Be sure to use Alt Tags for your images and the alt tag should contain your keywords. Don’t add similar keywords to each image as once again search engines may see them as spam.

Meta Description Tag
Writing a keywords-rich description will surely help in improving your website’s position as search engines will use your meta description tag as the short description of your website listed in their search result pages. The length of your description should not be too long, 2 to 3 sentences should be enough and the description encourage people to click the link to your website.

Meta Keywords
Yahoo is basically the only SE that utilizes meta keywords. Yahoo encourages webmasters to use meta keywords tag to improve their websites’ rankings. You can visit http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/ranking/ranking-02.html to read more about Yahoo’s webmaster guidelines. Add your keywords to the tag in order of importance and do not repeat the same keyword.
